A Venomous Viper In Central America and Northern South America; Bothrops Asper

Bothrops asper or another name is The Fer de Lance snake. It is a venomous new world viper species found in Central America and northern South America. B. asper can reach more than two metres in length, is quite fast, excites very easily and is extremely toxic. These snakes are widely spread in low-altitude areas, where they are mostly inhabited by humans, and are the main culprit of snake bite cases in areas where they live. The vast majority of those who survive after the bite also suffer organ loss as a result of necrosis. No subspecies of the species have been described so far.

After the bite symptoms are pain, discharge from the wound, that lasts 36 hours, local swelling at the bite site swelling, numbness, headaches, bleeding of nose and gums, gastrointestinal bleeding, we hemopt, hematuria, hypotension, nausea, and the sensitivity in the spleen, loss of consciousness. In cases where there is no intervention, necrosis often occurs, and the organ where the bite occurs may need to be amputated. In 12 fatal cases, the cause is shock as a result of kidney failure and bleeding caused by septicemia, brain hemorrhage, hyperkalemia and acidosis.

If one day you end up in Latin America, I say think 2 times before you step anywhere…
